2011 Skating Skills Summer Camp

Last July 2010, I ran a great summer skating skills camp. This summer 2011, due to my recent jump into parenthood, I've turned over the organization of the summer skating skills camp to Rocky Hockey. I will still be coming in to teach the skating sessions but I'm leaving the running of the camp up to Rocky Hockey for this summer.

If you are interested in the July skating skills camp or the August skating skills camp, please visit www.rockyhockey.ca

The programs I've outlined should be listed under skating skills camps. I hope this helps, please let me know if you need any more info.

These camps fill up fast so don't delay!!!!

 Power Skating

Here at Edgeahead, we focus on the main fundamentals of skating vital to obtaining maximum performance.  We believe that there are 5 key components of an Elite skater.

1. Edge Enhancement: Learning how to effectively use both the inside and outside edges. Increasing the depth and solidness of the edge.

2. Edge Control: Feeling confident, comfortable and in control of the depth and direction of the edge.

3. Balance and Coordination: Balance is the body's state of equilibrium, or the body's ability to maintain the center of mass over the base of support without falling or being knocked off base of support. Balance and coordination rely on the propriorection to develop the motor programming of the neuro-muscular controls required for precise movement and muscle reflex.  This basically means how the body is in space and how it moves through space.

4. Power and Agility: The ability to move quickly and easily combined with the capacity to perform effectively with the strength and force required.

5. Turning Ability: Learning or maintaining the ability to turn in both directions with ease and confidence.

We believe that by improving these 5 components of skating, it will improve the ability and performance of each skater.  Shelley uses unique skating drills designed to increase the ability of the skater to perform these 5 key components which are the cornerstone of great skating.
